Hand Guns: We will need to have the firearm in our possession before we start the DROS Process.

Long Guns: We can start the DROS process immediately.

What paperwork is required?
All firearms sales in California require a background check and 10 day waiting period. This process is an in-person, face-to-face appointment in our shop. Once in person, we will complete the CA Department of Justice Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) and various applicable safety and background documentation. All DROS and Dealer transfer fees are required at this point and are non-refundable. The 10-day waiting period may be extended if directed by California Department of Justice.

When you purchase a firearm, payment in full is required prior to you receiving the firearm. Transfer and DROS fees are non-refundable. It’s your responsibility to know if you are restricted from owning a firearm.

Legal Requirements for purchasing a Firearm:
You must have a valid and pictured CA Driver License or I.D. Card. If the address is not your current address you will be required to bring in proof of current address (PG&E, SMUD, Water Bill, Car Registration or Mortgage Payment) You must pass all legal requirements before obtaining the firearm.

Handgun & Lower Receivers: You must be over the age of 21 to purchase of a handgun.

Long Guns: You must be over the age of 18 to purchase of a long gun.

Sierra Gun Exchange reserves the right to refuse service to anyone at any step in the purchasing process and will always adhere to all laws established by El Dorado County, California Department of Justice and The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms and Explosives. It’s the customer’s responsibility to understand and know all laws. Sierra Gun Exchange is not in the position to provide legal council and any information received from any source other than Legal Council or the actual Penal Code should not considered as actual legal representation of the law.
